The Yeezy 700: the chunky dad shoe of the Yeezy line

When the Yeezy Boost 700 Wave Runner appeared, chunky sneakers were not yet everywhere. Its bulky, layered shape with a mix of grey, teal, orange and black stood out immediately, and it helped push the dad shoe trend into the mainstream. Today the 700 is still one of the most recognisable silhouettes in the Yeezy line.

The V1 and V2 share the same base. The upper is built from layers of mesh, leather and suede, stacked in a way that gives the shoe depth and movement. Under the foot you get a full-length Boost midsole, wrapped in a thick sculpted shell, so you get the soft Boost feel inside a much bigger, more stable package. Most colorways also have reflective details that light up in flash photos or under streetlights. The V2 keeps the same sole but uses a slightly cleaner arrangement of overlays and often a more tonal colour palette.

The Yeezy 700 V3 is a different story. It drops Boost and the classic layers for a cage-like upper that wraps around the shoe like a skeleton, sitting on a light foam sole. Some V3 colorways have reflective or glow-in-the-dark parts in the cage. It is the most futuristic shoe of the three, and the one people search for most these days.

The Yeezy 700 V1 and V2 usually fit true to size. They feel roomier than the 350 V2, so most people simply take their normal sneaker size. If you have very narrow feet, some go half a size down. The Yeezy 700 V3 is a different shape: the cage upper makes it feel more snug, especially across the top of the foot, so many people go half a size up for the V3.
