The Yeezy 500 first released in 2018 and immediately stood apart from the sleek, sock-like 350. Where the 350 is all about knit and Boost, the 500 goes back to a chunkier, more classic running shoe look, but with the clean lines and muted colours that every Yeezy is known for. It is a shoe that looks retro and modern at the same time.

The design is built in layers. The upper combines suede, mesh and leather, with soft suede overlays on top of a breathable mesh base. Small perforations add ventilation, and there are no bright logos to distract from the shape. Then there is the sole: a rubber outsole that wraps up around the sides of the shoe, almost like a bumper. Underneath sits an adiPRENE+ midsole, the cushioning that Adidas also used in running shoes. The result is a pair that feels stable and well padded without the bounce of Boost.

If you are between two sizes or have very narrow feet, some people go half a size down, while people with wide feet usually find their normal size comfortable. Note that the 500 runs a bit bigger than the 350 V2, so do not automatically take the same size you wear in a 350.

How to style and care for your Yeezy 500

The 500 is a chunky shoe, so it works best with trousers that have a bit of volume. Straight jeans, wide cargo pants or relaxed joggers that fall on top of the shoe balance the bulky sole well. The neutral colours keep it easy: Salt and Bone White fit a light, summery outfit, while Utility Black works with an all-black look or darker denim in winter.
