What is a Labubu?

Labubu is a small, mischievous monster with pointy ears, a wide grin and a row of tiny teeth. The character was created by artist Kasing Lung as part of his illustrated world The Monsters, where Labubu lives together with friends such as Zimomo, Tycoco and Mokoko. Pop Mart, the collectible toy brand, has been turning these characters into figures and plush since 2019.

In recent years the Labubu doll went from a collectors' item to a worldwide trend. You now see the vinyl plush pendants hanging from bags, belts and keys everywhere, from Asia to Europe. Part of the appeal is the design: cute and a little bit naughty at the same time. The other part is the surprise. Most Labubu figures are sold in blind boxes, so you never know exactly which one you'll get.

How a Labubu blind box works

A blind box is a sealed box with one figure from a series inside. Each series has a fixed number of regular designs, plus a rare secret figure that only turns up in a small share of the boxes. You only find out which Labubu you have once you open the box and the inner packaging. That's exactly what makes collecting so much fun: trading doubles with friends, hunting for the last one to complete your series, or hoping for that secret Labubu.

Want a full series in one go? Some series are also available as a sealed case: a complete set of blind boxes as Pop Mart ships them. Keep in mind that a case does not guarantee a secret figure.

Popular Labubu series

Pop Mart releases new Labubu series regularly, each with its own theme, colours and finish. Series our customers love include:

• Exciting Macaron and Tasty Macarons: soft pastel colours inspired by macarons, with the iconic vinyl face plush
• Have a Seat: Labubu in a sitting pose, made as a vinyl plush pendant
• Big Into Energy: a colourful series of plush hangers, each with its own mood
• The Monsters x One Piece: Labubu dressed up as characters from the One Piece anime
• Lazy Yoga, Coca-Cola and Wacky Mart: figure series with playful themes

Besides Labubu we also carry other Pop Mart lines, such as CRYBABY Crying Again, CryBaby x Powerpuff Girls, Disney Stitch Little Emotions and Spongebob Best Friends. Our stock changes quickly and popular series sell out fast, so the collection above always shows what is available right now.

Plush pendant or figure: which Labubu fits you?

Labubu comes in two main types. The vinyl plush pendants have a soft plush body and a vinyl face, with a loop so you can hang them from your bag or keys. These are the ones you see as a bag charm everywhere. The vinyl figures are small, hard collectibles that look great on a shelf or desk. Buying a gift? A single blind box is a fun surprise for any fan. Building a collection? Then pick one series and try to complete it, or go for a sealed case.

Real Labubu vs fake: how to spot a Lafufu

Because Labubu is so popular, there are a lot of fakes around. People call them "Lafufu". The difference is not always obvious from a photo, but there are some general things to look at when you buy a Labubu elsewhere:

• Packaging: a genuine Pop Mart blind box has clean printing, the Pop Mart logo and series information, and is properly sealed.
• Verification: Pop Mart boxes carry a code you can check with Pop Mart. Fakes often have no code or a copied one.
• Face and details: on a real Labubu the paint of the eyes, teeth and mouth is neat and symmetrical. Fakes often have messy paint, a different face shape or odd colours.
• Plush and stitching: the original feels soft and well made, with even stitching. Fakes are often rougher or slightly the wrong size.
• Price and seller: a price far below normal, or a seller with dozens of "secret" figures, is a red flag.

At Mentastore you don't have to worry about any of this. We only sell original Pop Mart products. Every item is new and sealed, and our own team checks each item before it ships, including products from our suppliers. Read more on our authenticity page.

Caring for your Labubu

Hanging your Labubu from a bag means it goes everywhere with you. To keep it looking good, avoid long periods in direct sunlight, which can fade the colours, and keep it away from rain and dirt. Clean the plush gently with a slightly damp cloth and never put it in the washing machine. Collectors who keep their figures on display often keep the original box and card as well, because a complete Labubu with its packaging is worth more to other collectors.

Frequently asked questions

Is Labubu at Mentastore original?

Yes. We only sell genuine Pop Mart products. Every Labubu is new and sealed, and our own team checks each item before it ships.

What is a Labubu blind box?

A Labubu blind box is a sealed box with one random figure or plush pendant from a series. You only see which Labubu you have after opening it. Each series also has a rare secret figure.

How can I tell a real Labubu from a fake Lafufu?

Look at the packaging and Pop Mart code, the paint on the face, the quality of the plush and stitching, and the price. A genuine Labubu is neatly finished. The safest way is to buy from a store that only sells original Pop Mart.

How much does a Labubu cost?

The price depends on the series and the type, such as a single blind box, a plush pendant or a sealed case. You'll find the current price on each product page.

Can I buy Labubu in a store in Tilburg?

Yes. You can find our Pop Mart products at our store at Heuvelstraat 92 in Tilburg. You can also order online and pick up your order in store.

Can I return a Labubu blind box?

No. Pop Mart blind boxes, including Labubu, are excluded from returns and exchanges. The contents are random and that is part of the collectible concept, so choose your series carefully before you order. Not sure which series to pick? Visit the store in Tilburg or send us a message and we will help you choose.
